The selection of Akash Deep in the team invited some criticisms as fans and experts felt that left -handed pacer Arshdeep Singh should have replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the team.
However, Pesar of Bengal ensured closing critics by giving Jasprit Bumrah-esk performance with the new ball. Akash opened bowling for India and scored 12 runs in the first over.
He improved his lines and lengths in his second over and was immediately rewarded with the wicket of the Centurion of the first Test – Ben Docket and Oli Pope.
On the fourth ball of the third over, Akash delivered a length outside the off-stump for Ben Docket, which found a thick out-to-kanare. The ball flew while slipping towards Shubman Gill, and the Indian captain took an excellent catch with both hands.
On the next ball, Akash Deep made Oli Pope a full and angle in delivery on an off-stump, and the England batsman found a thick leader-kanare. The ball flew towards KL Rahul in the second slip, and the Indian player caught the Pope in a second attempt to dismiss the duck.
