Bihar government has appointed Team India’s fast bowlers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar as DSP under its ‘Bring Medal, Get Job’ scheme. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary handed over appointment letters to both the Indian cricketers during a function at Urja Auditorium in Patna on Friday.
The scheme rewards athletes who have excelled at national and international levels with permanent government jobs. Along with Akash and Mukesh, 17 other athletes also got appointment letters. The government recognized his sporting achievements and provided him with long-term career security.

Samrat Chaudhary said that the appointment of Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar will inspire young athletes across the state. He said the government will identify talent from rural areas and provide better training facilities to help athletes succeed.
Samrat Chaudhary said, “The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna is being redeveloped, and the responsibility of its operation has been handed over to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). With a seating capacity of approximately 40,000 spectators, the stadium will be equipped with world-class facilities and will be capable of hosting national and international competitions.”
The state government will also start a sports talent search campaign at the Panchayat level from September 15. The initiative promises to provide training, financial assistance and modern facilities to athletes to compete at national and international levels.

Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh said the ‘Medal Lao, Job Pao’ scheme provides financial security to athletes while encouraging more youth to take up sports as a career. He said the government wants to ensure that talented players are not left behind due to lack of resources.
Shreyasi Singh said, “The Government of Bihar is committed to ensure that no talented athlete in the state is left behind due to lack of resources or worries about the future. The ‘Medal Laao, Naukri Paao’ scheme lays a strong foundation of respect besides securing the future of our athletes. Our aim is to establish Bihar as one of the leading sports states in the country.”
Under the scheme, the government gives direct appointment to the posts like DSP, Sub-Inspector and Panchayati Raj Officer. Apart from the 19 appointments announced on Friday, the state will also provide scholarship letters to 637 young athletes during the current financial year.
Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar’s performance for India
Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar were born in Bihar before pursuing their domestic careers in Bengal. His performance in domestic cricket earned him a place in the Indian team.
Mukesh has represented India in three Tests, six ODIs and 17 T20 matches. He also plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League after being retained for $960,000 (₹8 crore) ahead of the recent mega auction.
Akash Deep has played 10 Tests for India and has taken 28 wickets at an average of 35.78. Although an injury has ruled him out of the 2026 IPL season for Kolkata Knight Riders, he remains a vital member of India’s pace attack.
