It is just a matter of time for Vaibhav Suryavanshi to debut for Team India in T20 International format. The selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar also has its eye on the 15-year-old talent who has surprised every cricket fan with his extremely aggressive batting style.
After the IPL 2026 season, Team India has to play several bilateral T20I series, Asian Games and Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The selectors are in a challenging position as there will be a limited number of cricketers in the entire squad. Now the question is that which player should the selectors choose in the T20 team against Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is all set to debut in Team India
India has to tour Scotland and then play against England, Zimbabwe and West Indies. Under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav, under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a designated opening batsman. That means, to include a 15 year old batsman, the selectors will have to drop one of the openers from the current team.
At present, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are the three openers in the T20 team. At the moment, it is unlikely to see Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the team at the expense of Sharma or Samson or Kishan. Yashasvi Jaiswal is another contender to be a part of the team for T20Is.
Who will be dropped to make room for the young batsman?
“The selection committee is confident that Vaibhav is ready but then you are talking about Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. All three of them have half-centuries in T20 World Cup finals. If you take the fourth opener, then Yashasvi Jaiswal is also there,” a source told NDTV.
The Board will have to ensure separate visas for all its members before touring Ireland. There is news that instead of announcing a 15-member team for this tour, BCCI may select 17 players.
“Vaibhav is ready but the national selectors will have to give very good reasons to drop Abhishek or Sanju. Because if you drop either one, the question arises how is Surya retaining his place?” The source further said.
When will this 15 year old player debut for Team India?
In such a complicated situation, when will Vaibhav Suryavanshi debut for Team India? The upcoming Asian Games is considered a possible stage for the batsman to make his senior national cricket team debut. Even the series against Zimbabwe could be a turning point for the Bihar-born.
“It could be the UK tour or Zimbabwe. But the best stage could be the Asian Games or the West Indies home series as these two are overlapping so there will be two T20 teams. Vaibhav will play one of the two, if not the first,” the source said.
For now, the only duty of the budding talent is to continue the great form for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 and keep knocking on the doors of the selectors.
