Ajinkya Rahane will have to pay Rs 12 lakh to the board

Rahane was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining a slow over rate during the match. Since this was the team’s first offense in the current season, the offense fell under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.

Under this rule, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane will have to pay Rs 12 lakh as fine. If they repeat the same mistake in future, the amount of fine will be increased gradually.

IPL issued an official statement

“Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined after maintaining a slow over-rate during Match No. 22 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai,” the IPL said in an official release.

It further read, “Since this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

Shreyas Iyer has broken the rule twice in his season

Rahane has become the fourth player of the season to be convicted of the offense of slow over rate. Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer is the first person to register his name in this list. So far, Iyer has been fined twice for slow over rate. He had to pay Rs 12 lakh as fine for the first time offence, and the second time, when his team under his leadership repeated it, the fine amount was increased to Rs 24 lakh. PBKS failed to maintain the over rate during the matches against Gujarat Titans at New Chandigarh on March 31 and against CSK on April 2.

After Iyer, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad were the other two captains who had to pay fines for maintaining a slow over rate. Gill’s GT was found guilty against Delhi Capitals on April 8, and Gaikwad’s CSK were accused of the same offense during the game against Delhi last week.
