On the third day of the second Test match in Guwahati (Monday, 24 November), South African opener Aiden Markram dismissed Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy by taking a one-handed catch at third slip. Markram demonstrated excellent fielding standards for the Proteas and was compared to “Superman” at that moment.
India started the second day at 9/0, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul at the crease. However, the home team lost three important wickets in the first session. The pressure went into the second session as Rishabh Pant got injured while playing an unnecessary shot, opening the way for Nitish Kumar to come in.
Reddy looked unsteady from the beginning. He almost clipped a ball from Simon Harmer onto his stumps and then hit a brilliant four off the bat of Marco Johnson.

In the 42nd over of India’s first innings, Marco Johnson bowled a sharp bouncer to Nitish Kumar Reddy. The batsman tried to defend it safely with a high bat, but the ball touched the shoulder of his bat and went towards the slip area.
The chance was missed by second slip, but Aiden Markram reacted quickly. Markram ran to his right and started diving completely. Despite the ball going away from him, he went ahead and took a brilliant catch with one hand.
For a moment, it seemed almost unreal, and his teammates showed their enthusiasm by gathering around him to celebrate this spectacular effort. Watch the amazing catch here:

Ravindra Jadeja destroys Marco Jansen’s bouncer soon after Nitish Kumar Reddy
Marco Jansen once again hits a well-directed bouncer. After Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja was also out in almost the same manner. The ball hit Jadeja well above his body, hit his bat and went straight to Aiden Markram at slip, from which the fielder took another sharp catch.
At the time of writing, India were struggling at 158/7, with Washington Sundar (24) and Kuldeep Yadav (11) at the crease. The home team still trails South Africa by 331 runs in the crucial Test. India’s main priority should be to avoid follow-on in the current match.
South Africa have been excellent in fielding on the third day. Earlier in the day, fellow opening batsman Ryan Rickelton took a brilliant catch to dismiss left-handed batsman Sai Sudarshan.
South Africa was out for 489 runs in the first innings
South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first. They finished the opening day on 247/6, with Senuran Muthusamy and Kyle Verrein unbeaten at stumps. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s best bowler with three wickets.
India did not get any wickets in the entire first session on the second day and South Africa reached 316/6 at tea. Eventually, soon after the break, Ravindra Jadeja broke the long-running stand by dismissing Vereen for 45. With the inclusion of Marco Jansen, the game tilted towards the visitors.
Muthusamy completed his maiden Test century and added a pacey 97 runs with Johnson for the eighth wicket. He scored 109 runs with the help of 10 fours and two sixes.
Johnson missed his maiden Test century, being out for 93 off 91 balls. South Africa were eventually all out for 489 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, while Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took two wickets each.
