Aiden Markram was left fuming by Rishabh Pant after a shocking mix-up between the two batsmen during the IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (May 10).
Lucknow Super Giants are already out of the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs, but they have a chance to spoil the game for Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. Even LSG got off to a great start with Markram, along with Pant, looking to build momentum after yet another batting collapse this season.
But Rishabh Pant’s quick decision could have cost Aiden Markram his wicket. The tense moment unfolded during Lucknow Super Giants’ innings when Jamie Overton bowled a short ball to Rishabh Pant in the 10th over at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The left-handed batsman played the ball towards square leg and immediately called his batting partner Aiden Markram for the second run. The LSG captain went for the second run almost immediately. There was a complete misunderstanding between the two batsmen at a big moment for Chennai Super Kings.
Markram was left stranded in half of the pitch as there was no proper support from the non-striker’s end.

For a few seconds it seemed that Markram would be run out. The South African batsman was in complete shock, as Pant had already started running for the second run without proper communication. CSK fielders acted quickly and LSG batsmen panicked.
Markram had almost given up hope in trying to return safely to the crease. Luckily for Lucknow Supergiants and the South African batsman, CSK’s throw missed the stumps and they escaped the dangerous moment.
He completed the second run, but Markram looked very angry and disappointed with Pant as the risky call could have easily cost him his wicket in Chennai.
