Ahmed Shehzad praises Shahid Afridi for brutally slapping Shaheen Afridi for criticizing him

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi criticized his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi after the Men in Green were eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 without reaching the semi-finals. Ahmed Shehzad supported Shahid for his comments, and said that the former captain showed courage despite his family ties.

The left-arm fast bowler finished the tournament with eight wickets in five matches, but conceded runs at an economy rate of 10.52. Notably, the team managed to defeat only one full-member team during the T20 World Cup. PCB is preparing to impose fine on Afridi and other players after poor performance.

We should appreciate Shahid Afridi – Ahmed Shehzad

Ahmed Shehzad said that Shahid Afridi should be appreciated for criticizing Shaheen Afridi after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign. Ahmed Shehzad said that the former captain said only what was necessary despite personal relationships.

Ahmed Shehzad said, “We should applaud Shahid Afridi for speaking out and strongly criticizing Shaheen Afridi. It was not easy, but he said what needed to be said.”

Pakistan kept their semi-final hopes alive by scoring 212 runs in their last match against Sri Lanka, but they had to restrict their opponents to 147 runs to stay in the competition. However, the bowlers struggled to maintain control, making the task difficult.

Shaheen had a tough performance with the ball and conceded 48 runs in his four overs. He also bowled the last over of the match, in which he gave 22 runs. Ultimately Pakistan won the game by just five runs.

Shaheen Afridi is repeating his old mistakes again and again – Shahid Afridi

While talking on Sama TV, Shahid Afridi raised questions on Shaheen Afridi’s decision making under pressure. The former Pakistan captain said that the left-arm bowler was repeating the same mistakes about which he was warned earlier in his career.

Afridi had said on Sama TV, “He (Shaheen Afridi) has been playing for some time now. You don’t know where you have to bowl the last over. He has been told many times, he should know these things by now. He is repeating his old mistakes again and again.”

Pakistan out of T20 World Cup 2026 after losing semi-final spot

Pakistan faced a disappointing campaign in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The team failed to reach the semi-finals and were eventually eliminated due to net run rate.

Salman Ali Aga’s team started the tournament with wins over Netherlands and USA in the group stage. However, they suffered a 61-run defeat to India at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Pakistan’s campaign struggled to recover after that setback. A defeat against New Zealand and a close two-wicket loss to England further damaged their chances of progressing in the tournament.

Pakistan managed to defeat Sri Lanka by five runs in their final game, but the result was not enough to seal a place in the semi-finals. Both Pakistan and New Zealand finished the Super 8 stage with the same number of wins and points.
