Pakistan’s out-of-form batsman Ahmed Shehzad has not been selected by any PSL franchise since 2020, humiliating the batsman who once played at the national level. After this he left the PSL and refused to enter his name in the PSL draft. Speaking on this issue, he has accused the board of not seeking clarity from him.
Pakistan players never shy away from criticizing their own board due to various misdeeds. Especially with the increasing prominence of social media and many other public speaking platforms, these voices have come forward and reached the masses.
The exclusion of under-performing Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad from the PSL has been a central issue after the conclusion of every PSL draft auction for the last 5 years. Shahzad, who previously played a key role in the 2019 win for Quetta Gladiators, was not selected for any PSL franchise after 2020.
When Ahmed Shehzad was questioned about how he feels when he sees that his teammates are still playing in the PSL and their names are not being considered, he immediately commented that although he is happy for them, he is saddened by their situation.
Adding to this, Shehzad commented that there are many players who play in PSL, around 500 players, but only a few of them get publicity like him. Every time before the PSL auction, fans campaign in support of Shehzad and eagerly wait for his return to the PSL.
Referring to his crazy fanbase, Ahmed Shehzad said, “500 players play in the PSL; although I don’t see their names anywhere, there are campaigns in my name. However, despite this, no one talks to me keeping ego aside.”
Ahmed Shehzad banned from PSL?
Ahmed Shehzad has accused the Pakistan Cricket Board of not giving clarity to the franchises on their stance and not talking with them and not resolving the existing issues.
Shahzad commented, “When new teams came and talks were held from their end, one team knew that the PCB had banned me. They are unaware of the reality; while some think I have retired from the league on my own, some think I will be banned from the PSL. They have no clarity from either side.”
“Like Babar Azam had an eye on him while he was playing in the BBL. If I had been a part of the league, people would have watched the PSL too. Some would have watched with hatred, some with love and some would have watched me bat neutrally,” he said, promising to help PSL benefit from both viewership and advertisements.
Ahmed Shehzad described Babar Azam as his junior and claimed that given his immense experience in the game, he could have played a leadership role in any side.
Ahmed Shahzad cried on national TV
After all these statements, the Pakistani opener who was walking out of the team almost had tears in his eyes as he remembered that the worst moment for him was when his 9-year-old son wanted him to play, but he was no longer a part of any cricket in Pakistan.
Shahzad said in a heavy voice, ‘My 9-year-old son wanted me to play.’ He told that his son now wants to see him play, because when he last saw him play, he was so young that he does not even remember it.
Finally, he concluded by saying that for a player like him who has taken so many difficult decisions, it becomes difficult for him to put aside self-respect and approach someone on his behalf. However, if the PCB had made progress, he would have definitely kept his word and returned to play in the PSL.
