Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad had recently made a scathing attack on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Mohsin Naqvi. Shahzad termed the board as the weakest ever and said that the organization is blindly supporting a few select star players, which is destroying the national system.
This criticism came after Pakistan suffered another humiliating defeat against Bangladesh. After a disappointing T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, the team led by captain Shaheen Afridi suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat in an away ODI series against Bangladesh. They lost the final ODI after winning the second game.
They handed over Pakistan cricket to six players and their agents – Ahmed Shehzad criticizes PCB
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Ahmed Shehzad said that the Pakistan Cricket Board promoted specific individuals during the previous Pakistan Super League editions. Shahzad said the PCB handed him unprecedented power and lucrative sponsorships without demanding accountability.
“The caliber of your players is not at the level that the Pakistan Cricket Board built as a brand for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 5 and 7 years ago. These 6-8 boys… they are the face of the PSL as well. They are the face of our Pakistan team as well. Will they change Pakistan’s fortunes?” Ahmed Shahzad said.
He said, “You provided all the sponsorships to those boys, supported them and invested money in them. You gave them the captaincy in the PSL, right? You made them the thumb of the Pakistan team. You handed over the entire Pakistan cricket team to those 6 boys and their agents. And now what have they done? The fire they have set in the forest, the fun and parties they have done, the pockets filled, the joy they have enjoyed… They have not brought any victory to Pakistan by doing that.” Is.”
They are not ready to accept responsibility – Ahmed Shehzad criticized Pakistani players
After four consecutive failures to reach the knockout stage of ICC competitions, Ahmed Shehzad said that the players are not taking responsibility. He said that despite having administrative power, the PCB surrenders before powerful players.
Ahmed Shehzad said, “The audacity (of the players) is so much that even today they are not ready to accept that we are responsible. Not even one of those players. Even today they play the blame game. Even today their ego is such that it is not breaking. The Pakistan Cricket Board has become so weak now.”
He said, “Whenever you talk about a player, they start fabricating stories. I have never seen a Pakistan cricket board as weak as this PCB in my life. They have the power, right? But in taking decisions, they seem to be kneeling before their players. This PCB cannot do anything. The thing they should have done – bringing in new faces – they have not done. What they do, after every incident, they try to pull a new trick.” But the public has now caught hold of their pattern.”
Under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan faced 1-2 defeat in the series.
Shaheen Afridi was appointed the ODI captain of Pakistan last year. Pakistan suffered a shocking 1-2 series defeat against Bangladesh on the overseas tour, raising fresh concerns about the team’s direction ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
The selectors took a bold decision by leaving out Babar Azam and Sam Ayub despite their recent impressive performances in the format. Several youngsters including Maaz Sadaqat and Abdul Samad were given the chance to debut. Sadaqat made an impact in the second ODI with a quick 76 runs and three wickets.
Pakistan struggled badly on important occasions. They were bowled out for just 114 runs in the first ODI and failed to chase 291 despite a century from Salman Ali Aga in the decider and lost the match by 11 runs.
