Former Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Amir, Rashid Latif and Ahmed Shehzad hit back at star all-rounder Shadab Khan on live television after his controversial statement regarding the team’s embarrassing defeat against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026.

Shadab Khan’s controversial statement on 90s legends
Recently, Shadab Khan criticized the former cricketers of Pakistan who are criticizing the team for its poor performance. He boldly reminded everyone that this current team has achieved something historic by defeating India in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

That win was Pakistan’s first World Cup win over India. Speaking at the press conference, Shadab said, “Former cricketers have their own opinions. They were legends, but even they could not achieve what we have achieved. We have defeated India in the World Cup.”

Rashid Latif made fun of Shadab Khan
His comments did not go down well with some former stars. Rashid Latif took a sarcastic dig and even dragged senior player Fakhar Zaman into the discussion.
“We are proud of him. We are more proud because he (Shadab) is playing and Fakhar Zaman is warming the bench (laughs),” Latif jokingly said on Geo News’ Harna Mana Hai show.
Mohammad Amri says India is considering Pakistan’s victory as routine
Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir compared the past and present era, saying that the current rivalry with India is not like the intense battle of the 90s. Criticizing former fast bowler Shadab, he said that India now considers victory over Pakistan as routine.

During a discussion on the same show, Aamir said, “Okay, Pakistan won in 2021 (T20 World Cup). But there is a difference between Pakistan and India of the 90s. At that time Team India was scared. But now they did not take us seriously. They are winning but not celebrating. Because this is their routine. This is the difference.”
Ahmed Shehzad criticized the current Pakistan team regarding India’s record
Ahmed Shehzad, on the other hand, argued that the current group has played more matches against India than many previous generations. He said that this team had enough chances to change history, but it failed to create consistency. Shehzad also questioned why the team keeps talking about an old win when recent defeats keep piling up.
The cricket pundit further said that if the same group of players keeps losing, they should accept responsibility instead of hiding behind those old wins. “They are talking about the 90s. How long did they play in the World Cup? Four years. There was no T20 cricket then. The T20 World Cup started much later and was held every few years,” Shehzad said during the discussion.
He said, “The current group has played the most number of matches against India compared to the previous generations. And you keep playing with the same group of people. So, it was their responsibility to change the norms and beat India again and again. Not every time, but at least once. But they just keep losing and keep talking like this. They should accept the blame instead of defending themselves.”
