Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to make big bets in the IPL 2026 retention window, and all eyes are on their strategy ahead of the auction. In a bold approach, CSK is reportedly preferring to cash in on player swaps this time.
The blockbuster IPL trade involving Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja and England all-rounder Sam Curran is almost finalised, with only the final approval from the BCCI pending. Both Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have completed all the major moves for the swap.

Both the franchises are said to have submitted their Expression of Interest (EOI) to the IPL Governing Council, and all the players involved – Samson, Jadeja and Curran – have given their consent to the move. Once the BCCI approves the move, the trade will be officially confirmed.

Although the five-time IPL champions are yet to make any official move, a journalist from RevSportz revealed that Chennai Super Kings are looking for the right deals that maximize financial flexibility rather than chasing marquee trades for the next edition of the tournament.
Glenn Maxwell set to join Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026
The journalist hinted that Chennai Super Kings are targeting Maxwell, Livingston, Deshpande and Chahar in an all-cash trade deal ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Even a well-known ESPN Cricinfo journalist revealed that Australian all-rounder Maxwell will be seen donning the iconic yellow next season.
He revealed that PBKS and Chennai Super Kings are in talks for a trade deal, and it is almost confirmed that Maxwell will be moving to the Chennai franchise. Maxwell was a part of Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, but he once again failed to live up to the expectations and was ruled out of the entire season due to injury.
Now, Chennai Super Kings are parting ways with Curran as well as Ravindra Jadeja to bring Samson on board; They need a spin-bowling all-rounder who is also a finisher and Maxwell fits their demand perfectly. Thus, the franchise is going after Maxwell.
