Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi was angry at Pakistan’s star fast bowler and son-in-law Shaheen Afridi for his inconsistent bowling performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. Afridi used offensive words against Shaheen during a television programme.
Shahid Afridi looked really disappointed after seeing the poor performance of most of the players in the showcase tournament under Salman Ali Aga. As soon as the team is out of the title race, the team is being criticized a lot. Allegations are being leveled one after another against the team by former Pakistan cricketers including Shahid Afridi.
He doesn’t know where to bowl – Shahid Afridi
He put all the blame on the players and Shaheen Afridi. The 49-year-old claimed that he talked to the fast bowler a lot about bowling, but still, the fast bowler and the rest of the bowlers in the Pakistan team do not know how to bowl the last overs of the match despite playing for a long time, as claimed earlier.
“Shaheen has been playing for so long, yet he doesn’t know where to bowl in the last overs. I have told Shaheen many times. He is making mistakes again and again”, an angry Shahid Afridi issued a statement against his own son-in-law, who was also a key part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
He further said, “We don’t know when our bowlers will understand these things. These people are neither learning, nor want to learn, nor want to score runs.”
Pakistan failed to enter the semi-finals
The team performed well under the leadership of Salman Ali Aga and head coach Mike Hesson, but it was not enough to stay in the title race. In their final Super 8 match, which was a must-win match for the team, Pakistan registered the required win against Sri Lanka but were eliminated from the tournament due to low net run rate.
Shaheen Afridi proved to be very expensive against Sri Lanka on 28 February. This fast bowler gave away 48 runs in 4 overs to take one wicket. He was the second most expensive bowler after Shadab Khan.
Shaheen Afridi was not at his best in the T20 World Cup
In the 2026 T20 World Cup, the left-arm fast bowler appeared in 5 matches and took a total of 8 wickets in 17.0 overs. His economy rate is 10.53 after conceding 179 runs in the campaign. He was the second highest wicket taker for the team in the competition.
The former player also expressed his dissatisfaction with Shadab Khan as he scored a total of 118 runs and took five wickets in seven matches – a below-par performance at a major event.
Shahid Afridi also said, “The head coach is giving opportunities to Shadab on occasion. That’s why I said that Shadab can become the next captain of Pakistan. But looking at his recent performance, he doesn’t even deserve a place in the playing eleven.”
