Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary officially honored Team India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan for his bravery in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Ishan was instrumental in the team’s success in the tournament. India won its third ICC T20I WC title.
There is no other team in the world that has won three titles since the inception of the format. Ishan Kishan’s emergence in the international circuit ahead of the showcase tournament remains an inspirational story for many cricketers till date.
Ishan Kishan left his mark behind the historic achievement
In the World Cup, the top-order batsman scored 317 runs in nine innings at an average of 35.22 and a blistering strike rate of over 193. He has been in good form for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) season as well.
The Chief Minister of Bihar honored Ishan Kishan with a reward of ₹1 crore on behalf of the state government at his residence on May 15 (Friday). This award and recognition was symbolic of the talented cricketer’s contribution to the national cricket team.

“Samrat Chaudhary lauded Kishan’s contribution during the World Cup. He emphasized that the financial award acknowledges Kishan’s consistency on the international stage. The Chief Minister wished the player continued success as he continues to represent the region,” news agency IANS reported.

“Member of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 winning Indian cricket team, brilliant batsman, pride of Bihar, Shri @ishankihan51 ji was honored with a cash prize of Rs 1 crore by the state government for his significant contribution in winning the World Cup.”
Samrat Chaudhary wrote in the ‘X’ post along with some pictures of the special occasion, “Best wishes for a successful cricket career. Keep bringing glory to Bihar like this.”
To make this occasion more special, along with Ishan Kishan, his parents and some other cricketers from Bihar were also present at the Chief Minister’s residence. Also present was Shakib Hussain, who has impressed with his fast bowling skills for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026.
It is noteworthy that after the 2026 T20 World Cup win, the IPL franchise had appointed Ishan as their stand-in captain in this season’s IPL when designated captain Pat Cummins was not with the team. In the absence of the Australian star, Ishan Kishan was the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Ishan helps Jharkhand win its first SMAT trophy
Under Ishan’s leadership, the Jharkhand state cricket team won its first Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title by defeating Haryana by 69 runs in the tournament final.
In the final, he played a brilliant inning of 101 runs in just 49 balls and led the team to victory. After this feat in domestic cricket, the BCCI selection committee again selected Ishan Kishan for the T20I format, and it effectively worked in favor of the national team.
