India’s embarrassing 125-run defeat against England in the third T20 match has once again made young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi a topic of discussion. After another poor performance from Vaibhav, South African legend AB de Villiers shared an honest opinion about the youngster’s future and the challenges he faces.
De Villiers believes that Vaibhav has exceptional talent, but he also feels that the 15-year-old is still at the beginning of a very difficult journey. The former South African captain said that in modern cricket, fame comes very quickly, but the biggest challenge is to remain successful for many years.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become one of the biggest young stars of world cricket after his fearless performance in IPL 2026. However, things have become difficult for him in international cricket. After scoring 14 runs in his debut match, Vaibhav could only score 13 runs from five balls in the third T20 match against England in Nottingham.
After England’s failure, AB de Villiers called Vaibhav Suryavanshi ‘immature’
Reacting to the disappointing start to his international career, AB de Villiers said that Vaibhav is not mature enough at the moment and will learn with time. The legendary batsman further said that the road ahead will not be easy, adding that there will be many challenges, distractions and difficult situations that every young superstar will have to face.
That’s why the former South African captain hopes the left-handed batsman will be open to learning and accept advice from the experienced people around him. Earlier, Jofra Archer opened up on his rivalry with Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

“At 15, you still have to be relatively immature, and he probably is. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. I hope he has good leadership, guidance and advice. I also hope he’s willing to accept help along the way because it’s going to be a rocky road. There’s no doubt about that,” AB de Villiers said during an interview with Bombay Sports Exchange as quoted by Times of India.
Vaibhav’s character will be tested: AB de Villiers
When asked to share what emotions the teenager is going through currently, De Villiers said that every young cricketer has a different journey, so it is impossible to know what Vaibhav is feeling after gaining so much fame at such a young age.
The former South African batsman believes that the tough days will test Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s character, patience and mental strength and it will be interesting to see how the young player responds.
ABD continued, “Honestly, I have no idea. I wasn’t in that situation when I was 15. That’s the beauty of life – everyone’s journey is different. It’s not for me to tell what emotions he’s experiencing. He’s going to go through tough times.”
“His character will be tested. Then it will be up to him whether he has the character and mental strength to go through those stages. There are a lot of red flags and pitfalls that he could face.”
AB de Villiers says Vaibhav Suryavanshi will never be able to play Test cricket
The former RCB icon boldly predicted that Vaibhav Suryavanshi will not choose to play Test cricket in the future due to the boom in franchise cricket. He said that it will be interesting to see what decisions Vaibhav takes in the coming years, but his career will be full of challenges.
However, the legendary cricketer admitted that if the teenager remains mentally strong, continues to learn and handles pressure well, he has the talent to have a long and successful career.
