The India A vs Sri Lanka A match on 15th June was completely thrilling. The host team managed to win it through super over. Its outcome attracted more attention than the outcome of the match itself. Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a heated argument with the Sri Lankan players.
The 15-year-old, who did not have a good day on the field yesterday, was provoked by Sri Lanka A team players. The footage of the match shows Suryavanshi angrily pushing Vishen Halambaj, a member of the opposing team, further escalating the heat.

Words of wisdom from former Sri Lankan captain for Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Amidst the controversy, former Sri Lankan captain Anura Tennekoon has advised Vaibhav Suryavanshi to control his anger. The 79-year-old Tennekoon, who led the national cricket team in four matches in the 1970s, waited patiently to have a word with the budding Indian opener.
For Tennekoon, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a generational talent who needs to focus his attention completely on the game. Former Sri Lanka captain Tennekoon was quoted by Sportstar as saying, “He is a generational talent… You focus on your game and eliminate the outside noise. Today, unfortunately, you couldn’t carry on. But that’s part of the game, you can’t carry on every day.”
Sri Lanka’s first ODI captain Anura Tennekoon waited for almost an hour to meet Vaibhav Suryavanshi, reports Sportstar. Many players came and went, people on the field were preparing to end the day, but there was no Suryavanshi on the field.

After waiting for a long time, the former cricketer was seen discussing something with India A team captain Tilak Verma. Finally, when Vaibhav reached Suryavabshi, the veteran got a chance to talk to the budding talent.
Former captain is impressed with Suryavanshi’s batting skills
Tennekoon said he was surprised to see the fours and sixes hit by the Rajasthan Royals player during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The extremely aggressive batting of the teenage opener impressed the former cricketer a lot.
“I was really impressed with his batting in the IPL. And the way he hits sixes and fours is incredible. I hope he continues like that,” Tennekoon told the media house.
A lot of expectations from the teenage batsman
The India A team is currently in Sri Lanka for a triangular ODI series with the host country and Afghanistan. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the highlight of the tournament as he visited the island nation after the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season, where he earned the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs in the season.
In 16 matches and as many innings, the left-handed batsman scored 776 runs with an impressive strike rate of 237.30 and won several individual awards and helped the team qualify for the play-offs. After a stellar performance in IPL 2026, the Bihar-born player got his first chance for the senior cricket team.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel named the emerging batsman for the T20Is against Ireland, England and the 2026 Asian Games.
