Suryakumar Yadav has sparked speculation over his future with Mumbai Indians (MI) after he removed franchise-related pictures from his Instagram profile. The star batsman deleted several posts, leaving fans wondering whether his long association with the five-time IPL champions could be coming to an end.

This came into focus on Monday after MI’s disappointing IPL 2026 campaign. Fans also pointed out that Suryakumar does not follow MI or captain Hardik Pandya on Instagram. At the time of writing, the only Mumbai Indians-related image visible on his profile is his picture with Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.
Mumbai Indians’ poor IPL 2026 campaign sparks exit speculation
Recent social media activity has increased speculation about Suryakumar Yadav’s future with Mumbai Indians. Since joining the franchise from Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, he has been one of the most important players of the team and has played a key role in several successful seasons.

Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, faced a disappointing campaign in IPL 2026. The team finished ninth in the points table, winning only four of its 14 league matches. He finished the season with eight points and a net run rate of -0.584.
On May 10, 2026, Mumbai became the first team to be eliminated from the tournament after a two-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Ryan Rickelton was the team’s leading run-scorer with 448 runs, while Allah Ghazanfar led the bowling charts with 15 wickets.
Poor IPL 2026 season raises questions over Suryakumar Yadav’s future
Suryakumar Yadav has had a disappointing IPL 2026 season for Mumbai Indians, raising questions over his long-term role in the franchise. The star batsman struggled for consistency and failed to make a big impact in many important matches.

He scored 270 runs in 13 innings at an average of 20.77 and a strike rate of 147.54. His best performances came against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), where he scored 51 and 60 runs respectively. However, he could only score two half-centuries in the entire season.
Apart from his two half-centuries, his 2026 campaign was full of low scores, including a golden duck against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 10. His poor form played a role in Mumbai Indians’ disappointing season.
Ravichandran Ashwin supports Suryakumar Yadav after T20I humiliation
Ravichandran Ashwin has come out in support of Suryakumar Yadav after he was dropped from India’s T20I setup. The veteran spinner believes that Suryakumar’s leadership was not recognized enough by the selectors during India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign.
“As a batsman he may not have had the best performance in the World Cup, but certainly, like everyone else in the team – the coach, the vice-captain, the best performing batsman, the best performing bowler – he has also been the best performing captain, right? He has played his part.”
Ashwin’s comments came after the selectors included Shreyas Iyer in place of Suryakumar Yadav in the T-20 team. This decision resulted in Suryakumar losing his leadership role and his place in the team, leaving him with a huge challenge to revive his international career.
