Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly ready to make changes after the team’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2026. After failing to qualify for the semi-finals, Naqvi is considering removing Salman Ali Aga as T20I captain, which is to be discussed with Mike Hesson and the selectors.
Pakistan won by five runs over Sri Lanka in Pallekele on Saturday, 28 February. After scoring a total of 212 runs, Pakistan’s margin of victory was not enough to keep them alive in the competition. To qualify for the semi-finals, Pakistan had to restrict Sri Lanka to less than 147 and overtake New Zealand’s net run rate.

Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals of the fourth consecutive ICC tournament. They missed the last four in the 2023 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan’s first Super 8 match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain. They then faced a defeat against England, which put them in a must-win position. Although Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in their final game, the win did not improve their net run rate enough and they were eliminated.
Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan recorded wins over Netherlands, USA and Namibia and finished second in the group behind India.
Salman Ali Aga faced a tough tournament as both a batsman and captain. He scored only 60 runs in six innings and failed to perform well at crucial moments. His on-field decisions also came under scrutiny, with several tactical calls puzzling fans and experts.
Rashid Latif appoints Sahibzada Farhan as Pakistan’s white-ball captain
Former players Mohammad Hafeez, Basit Ali, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Amir and Shoaib Akhtar all raised questions about Pakistan’s leadership, tactics and overall direction.
Amid the growing debate over who should lead Pakistan in T20Is, Rashid Latif said the focus will now focus on Sahibzada Farhan. Latif said that the management may consider making him captain in both T20 and ODI.

Sahibzada Farhan breaks the record of scoring most runs in a T20 World Cup edition
Sahibzada Farhan created a new record for scoring most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. The opening batsman finished the tournament with 383 runs, breaking Virat Kohli’s long-standing mark of 319 runs which he set during the 2014 edition in Bangladesh.
Farhan emerged as Pakistan’s most consistent batsman throughout the tournament. He started with a steady inning of 47 against the Netherlands and followed it up with a brilliant 73 against the United States, giving Pakistan a strong start to the competition.
The batsman was out on zero against India. However, Sahibzada Farhan made a brilliant comeback by scoring his maiden T20I century against Namibia. He then added 63 more runs in a losing effort against England. The opening batsman also scored a century in Pakistan’s final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka.
