Afghanistan is likely to host India for a short T20 series on Indian soil. If all the latest reports received on July 23 are to be believed, this will be the first time that a national cricket team will host the Indian national cricket team in India.
It is well known that Afghanistan has close relations with India. For some time now, the Afghanistan cricket team has been considering many Indian cricket grounds as their home grounds.
India vs Afghanistan T20I series on the table: Report
If the plans go in the right direction, the Afghan Cricket Board could host the Indian cricket team for a three-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in mid-September this year. There have been rumors for a long time that the Afghan cricket team may host India for a limited overs series.
Without any concrete confirmation from reliable sources, it was difficult to report anything related to the potential bilateral series.
Cricinfo reported on Thursday that these teams can face each other for the T20 series. Unofficial sources suggested that these three matches could be held on 13, 15 and 17 September respectively. Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium has so far emerged as the only speculated ground where the potential T20I series could be held.
When will India vs Afghanistan T20 series take place?
However, an official statement regarding the series and full fixtures is yet to come. Between the two-match Test series tour of Sri Lanka and the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, there is a vacant window where the India vs Afghanistan T20I series can be held.
India will face Sri Lanka in the first Test from August 15 to August 19, with the second and final Test match of the series taking place from August 23 to August 27.
After that, the long-awaited 2026 Asian Games will officially begin with the opening ceremony in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan on September 19, 2026. There is a gap from August 28 to the opening day of the 2026 Asian Games, which can be utilized with proper planning.
If both these teams agree to the bilateral competition, it will be the second series between India and Afghanistan in 2026. Earlier, ahead of the Men in Blue’s tour of the United Kingdom, these two Asian teams had faced each other in June for a one-off Test and three ODIs, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series. This was the home tour of India, where they captured all four of those games in two different formats.
Team India claimed clinical victory over Zimbabwe
Currently, the Indian T20 team led by Shreyas Iyer is in Zimbabwe for a 3-match T20 series. The multiple-time T20 World Cup winners lead the series 1-0 as they claimed a comfortable win over Zimbabwe in Harare.
Fast bowler Mayank Yadav was adjudged player of the match for his spell with the new ball. With the bat, it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi who stole the show by scoring his maiden T20I half-century for the national cricket team.
