The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is all set to achieve a historic feat by hosting Sri Lanka in a multi-format series on its home ground. After the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the two sides will face each other in a bilateral series.
On 23 February, the ACB issued an official press release, announcing the upcoming series with Sri Lanka. There will be a three-match T20 series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka from March 13 to March 23, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series.

The action will then shift to Dubai for the ODI series, with the matches to be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 20, 22 and 25, the ACB said in its official release.
Through the press release, the Cricket Governing Board has informed that this will be the first time in their cricket history that Sri Lanka will be going head to head with them for a bilateral competition. This tournament is a part of his future plans with the aim of continuing his growth in the game.
After this, the white ball series will help both the countries build a stronger bond, which may come in handy in the coming days. Through matches with major cricket playing nations, Afghanistan aspires to achieve good results in multi-team tournaments organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Both sides are excited about the bilateral series
“We are delighted to host Sri Lanka for the first time in our history. This event reflects the strength of our collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, and we are committed to further strengthening our relationship to provide high-quality cricket experiences in the future. Sri Lanka has been playing excellent cricket recently, and we look forward to a competitive white-ball series between two quality sides”, said Naseeb Khan, CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board.
“Additionally, the series is fundamental to our mission as we begin to build our team and hone in on key areas that need improvement. Our primary goal is to prepare the team for major ICC and ACC events and the many bilateral commitments scheduled over the next two years”, he added.
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board is equally excited by the opportunity to face a highly talented team like Afghanistan. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board believes that this series will help the team prepare for the upcoming endeavours.
Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, said, “Bilateral cricket is an important element in international cricket, and we are extremely pleased to be a part of this historic tour, as this is the first time that Sri Lanka is participating in a bilateral series hosted by Afghanistan. I am confident that this tour will help us plan and prepare for our future international assignments.”
