Abhishek Sharma welcomed Varun Chakraborty with a strong six. The out-of-form spinner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) gave away 25 runs in his first over of the match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata tonight. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening pair – Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma – were in full swing against the KKR bowling line-up.
Both the teams started their campaign on a challenging note as both the teams lost their respective opening games in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. While Kolkata Knight Riders lost against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore.

KKR have a golden opportunity to register their first win of the season as they are playing their first home game of the campaign in front of their own fans. At present, the Purple bowlers have been badly beaten by the two batsmen of Hyderabad.
Before Varun Chakravarthy, Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani had given away 16 runs in an over with the new ball and Chakravarthy, who has been struggling with his form for the last few weeks, was sent back for 25 runs in an over. The spinner gave away 25 runs in the fifth over of the first innings.
