Abhimanyu Ishwaran’s father slammed Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir on his son’s exclusion during the Andron-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Ranganathan Parameswaran also said that Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri had prepared their son as a long -term test of Cheteshwar Pujara.
Cheteshwar Pujara made his Test debut against Australia in 2010. He has scored 7,195 runs in an average 103 tests of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half -centuries, not the best score of 206. The batsman last played in the 2023 World Test Championship Final against Australia in the format at the Oval.
Abhimanyu Ishwaran was asked to play one down – Ranganathan Parmeshwaran
Talking to Vicky Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Abhimanyu Ishwaran’s father said his son was designed as Cheteshwar Pujara’s successor during his visit to South Africa. Abhimanyu batted at number 3 and impressed a century against a quality bowling attack, including Marco Jensen.

“Abhimanyu was raised to one side for India. He went to South Africa. With the advice of Indian coaches at that time, Abhimanyu was asked to play one down, because Cheteshwar Pujara was leaving cricket. So he played at number 3 and scored 103 runs against Marko Jansen and five other quality bowlers.”
Batting at No. 3, Eziveran scored 103 runs in the first informal test and followed it with 55 in the second innings of the match.
Absence of an IPL record in my son’s profile … – Ranganathan Parameswaran
However, Abhimanyu Ishwaran was not included in the senior test squad for the tour of South Africa. His father believes that this was to demonstrate his form and the absence of IPL appearance due to the lack of recent domestic matches.
“By the time he returned from South Africa, the Bengal lost to Karnataka in the quarter-finals. Karnataka played a pre-fourth against Saurashtra. Bengal was out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy by then.”
He said, “So talent scouts had nothing recently to show on paper. And this perception – with the absence of IPL records in my son’s profile, I think I think that his India has become a basic obstacle for selection,” he said.
Abhimanyu Ezavaran is with Indian Test setup from 2021
Abhimanyu Isavaran is with the Indian Test setup since 2021. He was selected as a standby for the Home Series against England and the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand. The batsman received his first call-up during the 2022 tour of Bangladesh.
After that, India has handed over the test cap to at least 15 players, including Ansul Kamboj, during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. Despite several changes in the batting order, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement, Izavaran did not get a chance.
The 29-year-old was also part of the squad for the 2024–25 border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where India lost 3–1. He has scored 7,841 runs in 103 first -class matches at an average of 48.70, including 27 hundreds and 31 centuries.
The opener played an important role in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy campaigns, helping him reach the finals in both 2020 and 2023, but he lost to Saurashtra on both occasions.
