India refused to take the trophy of Asia Cup winners with the hands of ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. Former South African Great AB de Villiers reacted to the chaos around the trophy Ro, despite praising India’s dominance in the tournament.
The Indian team won the Asia Cup 2025 and refused to take the trophy from the hands of PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also presides over the Asian Cricket Council. With a handhell for a deadlock on medals and silver utensils, it is a massive fear.
The interpretation of AB de Villiers of the incident marked a clear message to separate cricket from geopolitics. East South African addressed India’s refusal to accept the Asia Cup Trophy.
AB de Villiers slammed India’s stand to not accept the Asia Cup Trophy
Recently, while speaking on his YouTube channel, #360, ABD went to address India’s refusal. AB de Villiers was not away from the optics of the presentation, as he mentioned the incident, he said:
“Team India was not happy in such a way who was handing over the trophy. I don’t think politics should be on one side. The game is one thing, and it should be celebrated for what it is. It is very sad to see, but hopefully they solve things in future.”
He said, “This game keeps the game, players, players, cricketers in a very difficult position, and this is what I hate to see. It was quite strange in the end,” he said.
During the conversation, his point seemed simple, as he indicated that off-field enmity should not affect mobility on the region. For him, the conflict of the ceremony looked like a avoidable distraction that shifted the spotlight from the champion’s on-field talent.
Abd praised India’s unilateral dominance in the Asia Cup
Despite slamming Indians for a spectacle around the trophy presentation, AB de Villiers did not know how to praise India for his performance. Legend knows the importance of big moments and performs well in such situations.
“We focus on what is most important (cricket). India is really, really looking strong. Building that T20 World Cup. Remember, it’s not far away. And they look as if they have got a lot of talent, and they play big moments well. So fantastic,” AB de Villiers said.
BCCI pledged the ICC to pursue the Asia Cup line, yet Mohsin Naqvi opposed one inch
After not having a proper conclusion from the Asian Cricket Council and its president, Mohsin Naqvi, who removed the trophy from the field in the heat of the moment. The representatives of the BCCI vowed to extend the matter to the ICC after going out of the ACC meeting, in which they really participated.
Mohsin Naqvi has urged Indians to accept the trophy only, despite these recent developments and controversy over the Asia Cup Trophy, as it is placed at the ACC headquarters, and Naqvi has refused to hand over it to the Emirates Cricket Board.
