Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ODI future has once again become a hot topic after the young batsman was dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series in England.
This call surprised many as he was recently a part of India’s home series against Afghanistan and also scored a brilliant century in Chennai.
Despite that memorable century, Jaiswal has once again been left out of the team. After Virat Kohli returned from injury, the Indian selectors dropped the youngster for the England tour.

However, the Proteas veteran believes that Kohli’s return has naturally changed the selection equation considering his condition and recent performances. Now he hopes that Kohli will continue his form.
AB de Villiers said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Virat Kohli is back. There is a bit of harshness on Jaiswal, who scored a century in Virat’s place, and now he has to make way. No complaints there, but it is a bit harsh on the players sometimes. When your king comes back, when the main players come back, there is a process that they are looking at. So, it really makes sense for Virat to step in there and make sure that the kind of form he has had. Have shown, keep it in IPL.
AB de Villiers feels Sanju Samson was unlucky to miss out on selection for India
De Villiers also said that Sanju Samson is the second unlucky player to miss out on selection for India. The former South Africa captain admitted that Samson has been in great form, but the Men in Blue already have Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul, which leaves no room for him.
He further added, “Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul are two top wicketkeepers. The big thing is there is no Pant, no Samson. Samson would have been closer than Pant, because he had a really good IPL and before that, he had shown signs of form as well. Not too many surprises there, but just for Samson, I think he was close.”

Meanwhile, former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has raised questions over Yashasvi Jaiswal being dropped from India’s ODI team for the upcoming England tour. Jaiswal has scored two centuries in only six ODI matches. Earlier, the young opener had also scored an unbeaten 116 against South Africa when Kohli was not available.
Despite those impressive statistics, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been overlooked and Manjrekar believes Jaiswal has done enough to strengthen his claim for a regular ODI spot. He indirectly reprimanded the selectors for not considering long-term options, questioning Rohit Sharma’s place amid reports of him not being part of the ICC World Cup 2027 plans.
The Times of India quoted Manjrekar as saying, “Yashasvi has scored two centuries in his last three ODIs. He scored 116 not out against South Africa, then scored four more centuries after an interval. Anyone opening in a strong India ODI team will get opportunities and Yashasvi has taken full advantage of them. So yes, it is unfortunate and a bit harsh.”
