Pakistan national cricket team selector Aaqib Javed accused former Pakistan cricket team coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie of overturning the decisions of the selectors. In a recent podcast, Javed claimed that Gillespie had no plans ahead of the Test match against England.
Both Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie resigned as head coaches of the Pakistan cricket team, leaving the team in a bad mood. Both the coaches accused the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of interfering in the team building process several times in the past. Now, it is Aaqib Javed who has come up with a different story to defend the PCB.

Aaqib Javed left disappointed with Jason Gillespie’s reply
Recalling an incident, Aaqib Javed mentioned that before the Test match against England, he traveled to Multan to talk to Jason Gillespie and then Test team captain Shan Masood. According to Javed, when he asked Gillespie what his plans were for the upcoming Test match, the coach said that he had no plans at that time, which disappointed him.
He said, “I went to Multan and spoke to Jason and Shaan. I asked them, what were your plans after the first Test against England? They had no plans. I said, it won’t work.”
The former cricketer further claimed that since the coach had no such plans, the board prepared a suitable pitch for his team and brought quality spinners into the squad. Ultimately Pakistan won the match against England. From here the relations between Jason Gillespie and the board started deteriorating.
Aaqib Javed said, “We need to change both the pitch and the team. We brought in spinners, Pakistan won and that’s when things started going wrong. He then said, I don’t agree with that.”
Jason Gillespie accuses Pakistan Cricket Board of not communicating properly
Gillespie was initially appointed to manage Pakistan’s Test team through April 2024 on a two-year contract. The former Australian fast bowler resigned from the job within the time limit of one year. Gillespie cited a breakdown in communication and a lack of support from the PCB; He left the team in December 2024.
On January 1, 2026, he took to his official ‘X’ account to explain why he suddenly left the job. According to the former Australia international, he felt humiliated when the PCB removed senior assistant coach Tim Nielsen without any communication.
Gillespie had previously said, “I was coaching the Pakistan Test team. The PCB dismissed our senior assistant coach without any contact with me about it – as head coach, I found this situation completely unacceptable. There were a number of other issues as well, which left me completely humiliated.”
