Aakash Chopra chosen Orange Cap winner in IPL 2026
Chopra has supported the explosive opener of Rajasthan Royals Yashasvi Jaiswal To emerge as the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026. The former cricketer admits that he has consistently outshone Jaiswal in the past seasons, but believes that this could finally be the year when the youngster really shines.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said he expected Jaiswal to push boundaries and potentially produce a season of between 700 and 900 runs – something only a handful of batsmen have achieved in IPL history. Their confidence stems not only from Jaiswal’s talent but also from his aggressive intentions at the top of the order.
“Could this be Yashasvi Jaiswal’s year? I say before every IPL could this be his year? Could this be the reason for this guy to get 700-900 runs? I would say once again could this be his. I will once again focus on Yashasvi Jaiswal because I like him a lot.” Chopra said.
Jaiswal had an impressive IPL 2025 campaign and finished as the seventh-highest run-scorer. He displayed both consistency and aggressive nature, scoring 559 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 159.71. Despite not earning the Orange Cap last season, his performances cemented his status as one of the most dangerous young batsmen in the league.

Star pacer tipped for Purple Cap glory
On the bowling front, Chopra has identified the leader of Mumbai Indians Jasprit Bumrah As his choice for the Purple Cap in IPL 2026. However, he put forward an important condition – Bumrah has to remain fit and available for the entire season.
Chopra admitted that Bumrah’s workload management often limits his participation in all matches, but he insisted that if the fast bowler plays the entire season, he can have an edge in the competition.
“Who can be the bowler with the most wickets? It’s an interesting thing. Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t play all the matches. If he plays all the matches, he can be one. If Bumrah plays all the matches, let’s make it Bumrah,” Chopra was added.
Bumrah had a good run in the IPL 2025 season as he took 18 wickets in just 12 innings at an impressive economy rate of 6.67. Despite missing some games, he finished as the seventh-highest wicket-taker, underscoring his efficiency and impact.
Discussing other contenders, Chopra mentioned several top Indian fast bowlers Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad SirajAnd Prasidh Krishna. He also briefly considered foreign options such as Mitchell Starc. However, he eventually accepted Bumrah as his top choice, citing his unmatched ability to perform in high-pressure situations.
“I’m thinking of Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Mitchell Starc overseas. Who could it be? Josh Hazlewood won’t play all the games. Let’s go with Bumrah.” Chopra further said.
