Ashwin says that because of the extraordinary batting of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Yashasvi Jaiswal Has gone into his shadow. The figures of both the batsmen also show the difference. In the current season, Suryavanshi has so far scored 583 runs in 14 innings at an average of 41.64 and an impressive strike rate of 232.27, while Jaiswal now has 397 runs at an average of 33.08 and a strike rate of 159.43.
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “It’s a little disappointing, and I’m a little surprised by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in the Rajasthan Royals team. I’m a little surprised because I expected a lot from him; I have a lot of expectations. But I just have a little feeling that Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s performance has probably shaken up Jaiswal a little bit. It’s unsettled him.”

R Ashwin compared Yashasvi Jaiswal with Aakash Chopra
To further strengthen his point, the former cricketer talked about the opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra. Sehwag was known for his aggressive batting style; Chopra, on the other hand, was a little slow to rotate the strike. In a limited number of matches, Aakash Chopra showed his class, but in most of the matches his opening partner Virender Sehwag overshadowed him.
“If you remember the opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra in Test matches, Aakash Chopra used to play really well, give good starts of 30 or 40 runs. But the style and manner in which Virender Sehwag used to bat made Aakash Chopra almost invisible. It is not so; Aakash Chopra did a very good job on that Australian tour too. But I just feel that the aggressive batting of Vaibhav Suryavanshi here Because of that, it has put Jaiswal out a bit in many games, Jaiswal has been out trying to hit the ball too hard,” explains Ashwin.
Disappointed with the performance of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026
R Ashwin is completely disappointed with Mumbai Indians. They were defeated by Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. Ashwin believes that MI should have achieved the target of 206 runs easily.
Ashwin said, “I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal bat well because he has the ability. But this time, the story of Rajasthan Royals is about Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and on the day Jofra Archer was needed, he also stepped up. But all that said, Mumbai Indians have been very, very, very, very weak this season. This score was worth chasing.”
