Aakash Chopra criticized Pakistan: The group stages of the 2026 T20 World Cup have ended, and the Super 8 stages begin on Saturday, with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka in the first game of the second round. Ahead of the Super 8 stages, a controversy has arisen that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is favoring the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
There are discussions going on that India has been placed in the easy group. However, pre-seeding of the groups has taken place according to the standings. India is in a group that includes South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe. However, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, England and New Zealand have been given preference in the second group.
Zimbabwe will replace Australia in the knockout stage
Mainly, it was Australia who should have been in India’s group, but they were ousted by Zimbabwe, who topped their group and came into this group. Talking about the ongoing rumours, former India opener Aakash Chopra has shared his thoughts on his social media account.
There are disparities in the T20 World Super 8 grouping, which has resulted in the premier event being held in two countries: India and Sri Lanka. Along with this, Pakistan will not go to India for any of its matches, which will complicate the scheduling process.
Aakash Chopra rubbishes ‘Aasan Group’ rumors
Aakash Chopra said, “This tournament is taking place in two countries. So, India will have to play all their matches in India, and Sri Lanka and Pakistan will have to play all their matches in Sri Lanka. So, it is mandatory to put Sri Lanka and Pakistan in one group, and India should be in a different group. Otherwise how will it work?”

“A lot of people are saying that all this is in favor of BCCI, and it is happening in favor of BCCI. To those people, I want to ask something, Dimag Khali Hai Kya Yaar? (Is your mind blank?) Why would we want to have South Africa and West Indies in our group? How will this help us in any way?”
Aakash Chopra further said, “Australia would lose, who knew? And Zimbabwe is on top of the group. So, don’t consider it a weak group. At least do some research. Don’t talk nonsense, it doesn’t work.”
Does India have an unfair advantage?
Aakash Chopra also cited the example of previous T20 World Cup editions, where all the group-stage toppers were put together in the Super 8s. Aakash Chopra concluded, “People are saying how can you do all this and all, what is pre-seeding here, there is no point in topping the group.
“But we have to understand that this is not happening for the first time. It happened in 2007, 2009, 2010 and even in 2012. In 2012, exactly the same scenario played out, where the table toppers were together in one group.”
Sri Lanka will face England in the first game of the double Super 8 game header on Sunday. In the evening, India will face South Africa in the first game of Group 1. The stage is now set for some serious battles as the tournament draws to a close.
