Joburg Super Kings have appointed former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel as their new head coach ahead of the upcoming SA20 season. Albie Morkel has been a part of the Super Kings family for a long time, and he has now been promoted after playing a key role in the franchise’s coaching setup since the launch of the South African T20 league.

As the new head coach, Morkel will now aim to lead the Joburg Super Kings to a successful campaign in the upcoming SA20 season. The upcoming fifth edition of the SA20 will begin on January 17, 2027 and Joburg Super Kings will begin the season on January 18.
Morkel represented South Africa in 1 Test, 58 ODI and 50 T20 matches between 2004 and 2015. He also had a stellar T20 career, where he scored over 4,000 runs in 319 matches and took nearly 250 wickets. Meanwhile, Shane McDermott has joined the Afghanistan coaching staff following Pakistan’s exit.
