The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally issued an official statement on the speculations surrounding the future of India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip. After many reports and rumors about changes in India’s support staff, BCCI has clarified everything.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia confirmed that both coaches have completed their contracts and will not continue with the India national cricket team. The board also clarified that they have neither dismissed Ten Doeschate nor Dileep, but their contracts have been terminated. Meanwhile, Deep Dasgupta says India may field two teams after the whitewash in Zimbabwe T20I.
BCCI has not confirmed the contract extensions of Ryan ten Doeschate and T Dilip
On Tuesday, July 28, BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia confirmed that Ryan ten Doeschate’s two-year contract as assistant coach expired on June 10, while T Dileep’s one-year extension expired on June 8. However, both coaches remained with the Indian team till the end of the recent Ireland and England tours to ensure a smooth transition.
Saikia also clarified that there are no plans to extend the contracts of any of the coaches, putting an end to all rumors regarding their future with the India national cricket team.
“Assistant Ryan ten Doeschate’s two-year contract with the Indian men’s team expired on June 10. Fielding coach T. Dilip, who was given a one-year extension, also had his contract expired on June 8,” Devjit Saikia was quoted as saying by PTI.
“They continued till the end of India’s tour of the United Kingdom. However, we are not giving any extension to Ryan ten Doeschate or T. Dilip. There is no question of accepting resignations as their contracts have expired.”
Possibility of new fielding coach before Sri Lanka Test tour
The BCCI Secretary also confirmed that the process of appointing a new fielding coach is already underway. The board is currently in discussions with two to three shortlisted candidates and hopes to complete the appointment soon before the upcoming Sri Lanka Test tour.
“Right now we are discussing two to three names and hopefully the details will be finalized in a day or two. India will have a new fielding coach for the Sri Lanka tour,” Saikia said. Meanwhile, BCCI has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach of India ahead of Sri Lanka.
Ryan ten Doeschate rejected BCCI’s offer but T Dileep showed the way out.
Well, Ryan ten Doeschate and T. Dilip are set to leave the India support staff but the reasons behind their exit are different. When Ryan joined the Indian team he was expected to become the fielding coach, as Gautam Gambhir wanted him in the coaching setup, but instead he was given a different role.
During India’s tour of England, Ryan informed the BCCI that he wanted to leave. The board reportedly offered him a new contract until 2027, but he refused as he wanted to spend more time with his young family and avoid constant international travel.
During his tenure, India won the 2025 Asia Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy and defended the 2026 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, T. Duleep’s contract was not renewed after he criticized India’s fielding performances, especially during the recent white-ball tours of Ireland and England.
