The Indian national cricket team won the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe 3-0 without any problems, but the disappointing performance of young opener Abhishek Sharma has raised many eyebrows.
After a poor performance on the England tour, Abhishek Sharma failed in all three matches in Zimbabwe and now former Indian chief selector Kris Srikkanth believes that the current selection panel and team management may have to take a tough decision. However, Suryakumar Yadav has supported Abhishek Sharma after his poor performance in the Zimbabwe series.

Chris Srikkanth has demanded the return of Sanju Samson to the Indian T20 team after India won the T20 series 3-0 in Zimbabwe. He believes that Abhishek Sharma’s poor form can no longer be ignored, especially after Sanju lost his place after the first few disappointing matches.
Earlier, the left-handed batsman had scored 131 runs in the five-match T20 series against England. Still, he got consistent chances but could not make any impact. In the Zimbabwe series, Abhishek could score only 11 runs in three matches at an average of 3.66 and strike rate of 55.
Kris Srikkanth feels bowlers have worked over Abhishek Sharma
Srikkanth feels that the bowlers have now understood Abhishek’s batting style and are using clear plans to dismiss the Indian opener. He felt that the time had come that the selectors should take some tough decisions, drop Abhishek and bring Samson back into the T20 squad.
Chris Srikkanth said in a video posted on his YouTube channel, “Abhishek Sharma has been dropped (by opponents) in international cricket since the World Cup. I think now a tough decision will have to be taken against him. I think Sanju will now get a chance again. He will get a 100% call back. The selectors will have to take a tough decision.”
Abhishek’s last 10 T20I scores are 2, 8, 1, 3, 16, 10, 43, 59, 0 and 49. Srikkanth believes that the bowlers have now worked on the weaknesses of the Punjab boy. As a result, the young Indian opener will have to improve if he wants to retain his place in the playing eleven. Chris Srikkanth praised Mayank Yadav after his brilliant performance in the Zimbabwe series.
However, the 1983 World Cup-winning fast bowler was full of praise for Mayank Yadav. The 24-year-old made a spectacular comeback after being out of the national team for almost two years due to injuries. Mayank bowled with good pace and control throughout the series.
Srikanth was happy to see Mayank staying fit and performing consistently. He also praised another young fast bowler Ashok Sharma. Although Ashok managed to take only one wicket in the two matches, his pace and consistent length impressed everyone.
Mayank finished the Zimbabwe series as the highest wicket-taker. He took five wickets in three matches, including 3/29 in the final T20I at an average of 14.40 and an economy rate of 6.54.
The former Indian captain said, “It was good to see Mayank Yadav playing all three matches. Very happy for him. Look how consistent this guy was. The Indian future is very good. You have to support the right youngsters. I have no objection to Ashok Sharma too.”
