Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign from the post of Union Education Minister.
The student protests in Delhi became an international topic due to their scope. While initially confined mostly to the capital of India, it gradually emerged as a national issue and then attracted international media attention.
The youth movement evolved into a serious challenge to the Narendra Modi-led central government. On Saturday, Dharmendra Pradhan informed that in view of the situation at Jantar Mantar and across the country, he has sent his resignation to the Prime Minister.
“Keeping in mind the situation arising at Jantar Mantar and across the country, so that anti-national forces cannot take advantage of this situation… I have sent my resignation to the Prime Minister,” Pradhan wrote in a social media post.
“I deeply respect the aspirations, sentiments and legitimate expectations of the youth of the country,” he said.
Many Indian cricketers showed their support towards the youth
Former cricketers like India captain Shubman Gill, fast bowler Akash Deep, Sachin Tendulkar, Irfan Pathan and many other personalities from Indian cricket and Indian sports industry had expressed their opinion on the students’ protest.
However, Dinesh Karthik’s social media post drew mixed reactions from his followers as he shared his thoughts after the conclusion of the protests. One of the demands of the protest was the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan; He resigned amid increasing pressure.
While the reactions of Shubman Gill, Sachin Tendulkar and others came during the protests, Karthik’s reaction came late following the resignation of India’s education minister.
