Trying to defend, the Zimbabwean batsman was caught at the crease and could only get a light outside edge through the wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.
Although the on-field umpire turned down India’s appeal, Kishan was convinced that he had heard an abuse and immediately urged the captain Shreyas Iyer To take review. Iyer backed his wicketkeeper’s instincts and the decision review system confirmed the edge on ultraage, overturning the original decision. The successful review brought joy among the Indian players as Bennett had to go back without opening the account, giving Mayank the wicket on the very first ball of the innings.
