New Zealand fast bowler Nathan Smith was named the best player in men’s international cricket for his performances against England during the three-match Test series in June 2026. New Zealand won the 3-match Test series 2-1 on the basis of Nathan Smith’s extraordinary bowling.

India captain Shubman Gill and Bangladesh star Mossadek Hossain were also in the running to be named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June 2026. New Zealand fast bowler Smith emerged as the player of the month, beating all other contenders.

Why did ICC name Nathan Smith as ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June 2026?

He finished the England vs New Zealand Test series as the leading wicket-taker, taking 16 wickets at an average of 23.00. In the second innings of the first Test at Lord’s, Nathan Smith returned with a brilliant bowling figures of six wickets for 70 runs.

Due to his performance which made the difference between the two teams, the International Cricket Council awarded him the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June 2026.

Smith said his focus was mostly on the team’s performance, but it was a great feeling as his individual efforts have been recognized by the world cricket body. But more importantly, his performance helped New Zealand win the away series against England.

“It’s really special. It was a great tour of England for the boys, and that’s great. I don’t usually play for individual awards, but it’s nice to get this recognition and, more importantly, contribute to a series win,” he said after being awarded the special award in the men’s international cricket section.
