Bangladesh national cricket team’s T20 captain Liton Das has been embroiled in a major controversy after being summoned by the disciplinary committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Liton Das was asked to appear before the Bangladesh Cricket Board after being accused of breaking the rules set for centrally contracted players.
This shocking development has raised many eyebrows as Liton is currently recovering from injury. Well, despite being the captain of Bangladesh, he will not get special treatment in this matter. Meanwhile, India’s 2026 tour of Bangladesh is close to approval, and the Afghanistan T20I is set to be rescheduled.
Bangladesh captain Liton Das is in trouble with BCB
Liton Das was expected to travel to Singapore on July 20 to get his calf injury checked by specialists. The injury has already ruled him out of Bangladesh’s recent T20I series against Zimbabwe and has also ruled him out of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026.
The star batsman suffered a calf injury during the ODI series against Australia at home. He subsequently missed the Test series before joining the Bangladesh national cricket team for the ODI series in Zimbabwe. However, he could not fully recover and returned home before the T20 series.
Meanwhile, Liton has been embroiled in a major controversy as the T20I captain allegedly traveled to China after returning from Zimbabwe, and that too without informing the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
BCB not impressed by Liton Das’s visit to China!
This frustrated BCB officials, who were unaware of his travel plans and had no clear updates on his injury or medical condition, and forced them to take serious note of the development.
Cricbuzz quoted a BCB source as saying, “He (Litton) had gone to China, which the board did not take well. The board called him and asked why he had gone to China and with whose permission.”
Since Liton is a centrally contracted player, the Bangladesh Cricket Board considered the matter a possible breach of its code of conduct. Because of this, the BCB called him for a disciplinary hearing on Sunday to explain his actions.
As BCB begins detailed review, Liton Das makes his stand clear
During the meeting, Liton Das reportedly shared his side of the story. The board is now examining his statement with its medical committee before taking a final decision.
BCB director Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir has confirmed that Liton had given his statement during the hearing, and the board is now ready to talk to the ‘medical committee’ and ‘investigate the entire matter’. However, the director felt that whatever the star batsman said was only “true”.
Alamgir also pointed out that the Bangladesh captain has been playing for a long time and has not had so many disciplinary issues in his career. “I think he is a bit disappointed because he could not play the Sri Lankan T20 League (Lanka Premier League),” he said.
BCB has sent a strict warning to all contracted players
The BCB director further said, “There was just a communication gap. It is not an intentional or any kind of violation, but despite there being a communication gap, they still breached the contract. We have to do something about it, even if it is a small thing, so that they are aware in the future.”
He said, “We want this message to go to the players so that they follow the rules and regulations properly. You can say that the board will not tolerate indiscipline from any player. It does not matter how big a player he is. I have told Liton not to take it personally. Through this we want to give a clear message to the players about our stand on disciplinary issues.”
