The Pakistan national cricket team has been embroiled in a major controversy after Mohammad Nawaz landed in serious trouble due to anti-doping rule violation ahead of the West Indies series. The 32-year-old player has been banned for violating the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
ICC bans Mohammad Nawaz after failing doping test before West Indies series
The spin-bowling all-rounder has been banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after failing a doping test during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. But there is some relief for Nawaz, as the ICC has decided that he can return much earlier if he successfully completes the rehabilitation programme.
The doping test was taken after Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 7, 2026. Testing found carboxy-THC in his sample. The substance appears on the ICC’s banned “substances of abuse” list. Meanwhile, Pakistan is set to host a four-team ODI tournament ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
