The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may have to reshuffle its coaching staff as several members are likely to leave their current roles with the India national cricket team.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate is among the backroom staff set to leave their current positions. If the former Netherlands batsman formally steps down from the Indian cricket team, the board will have to name a replacement before the ODI World Cup 2027.

Why does Ryan Ten Doeschate want to leave Team India?
According to the latest reports, Ryan ten Doeschate is in touch with the board to decide his future. Throughout the year, the Men in Blue travel extensively across continents for consecutive series.
The gap between the two series is very limited, making the schedule very hectic for the cricketers and staff. Although there is a lot of talent across all formats to represent the team, the coaching set-up hardly gets any long-term leeway. Ryan ten Doeschate was appointed as the assistant coach for the Indian men’s cricket team in July 2024 as per the recommendation of head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir and Doeschate had worked together for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former Netherlands batsman was the fielding coach of KKR before joining Team India during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July 2024.

According to a Times of India report, Ryan ten Doeschate is in touch with an IPL franchise. If things go according to plan, he may resign from Team India’s job and join the IPL franchise. As mentioned, it is the busy schedule of the Indian cricket team that is forcing them to change jobs, where travel time will be limited.
“Doeschet is not very confident about continuing in this job. He has expressed his concerns about traveling with the team throughout the year,” a BCCI source told the media house.
The report further added, “Sources said Doschet may be in talks with an IPL franchise… If things are not resolved, the BCCI may be forced to send Lakshmipathy Balaji, who was recently appointed as the fast bowling coach in the CoE, to Sri Lanka.”
VVS Laxman will become the interim head coach of India
After the conclusion of the ongoing England series, Team India will begin their preparations for the T20I series against Zimbabwe and a short Test series against Sri Lanka.
Both series will be held on foreign grounds. The Indian cricket team will be under the guidance of Center of Excellence (CoE) head of cricket VVS Laxman for the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe.
For the series, Laxman is expected to take his coaching staff with him. Team India has to play only a few tests in Sri Lanka in the first week of August. Ahead of the upcoming fixtures against these two countries, the board may have to take a decision on the future of Ryan ten Doeschate.
