Shreyas Iyer’s first series as India’s full-time T20I captain went from bad to worse. India ended their England tour with a humiliating defeat after losing the fifth and final T20 match by 56 runs at the Rose Bowl on 11 July. England won the five-match T20 series 4-0, but Shreyas Iyer is still waiting for his first win as India’s T20 captain.
It was a tour India would never want to see again. The India national cricket team struggled badly in the five-match T20I series, setting several unwanted records and losing its No. 1 T20I ranking after more than 1,600 days, with England becoming the new No. 1 team in the format. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer explained the reason behind selecting Sanju Samson instead of Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the fifth T20 match against England.

In the fifth and final match, England completely dominated the batting while India’s bowlers looked helpless. They posted a massive score of 257/3 on the board after Jos Buttler played a brilliant inning of 131 runs in just 64 balls. He hit 12 fours and eight sixes to register the highest T20I score of his career.
Harry Brook also played a brilliant inning of 95 not out in just 45 balls against India. Axar Patel gave away 63 runs in his four overs, and Prince Yadav gave away 60 runs, while debutant Suryansh Shedge also faced a lot of trouble after being included in the playing eleven in place of injured Harshit Rana.
India needed 258 runs to win and started the chase with positive intentions. Ishan Kishan scored 56 runs off 35 balls, while Tilak Verma scored a quickfire 53 runs off just 25 balls. However, India kept losing wickets at regular intervals and finished at 201/8, falling 56 runs short of avoiding a whitewash in England.
Shreyas Iyer has joined the unwanted list after not winning seven T20 matches as captain.
With India’s humiliating defeat at the hands of England in the T20 series, Shreyas Iyer’s name entered the record books for the wrong reasons.
