Vaibhav Suryavanshi is still waiting for his debut in India and the demand for it is increasing with every passing day. Amidst the talk of the 15-year-old teenage sensation, former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has a special request to the team management and selectors.
Ahead of the second T20I against England in Manchester on Saturday (July 4), Parthiv urged the Indian cricket team management to ensure that the left-handed batsman understands why he is still on the bench and clearly explains his role in the team.
Suryavanshi was selected in India’s T20I squad for the Ireland and England series after his remarkable IPL 2026 season. This young left-handed batsman impressed everyone with his fearless batting and joined the team from India for the first time, but has not got a chance yet.
The youngster from Bihar was benched in both the T20Is against Ireland and he also missed the first T20I against England in Durham, which was abandoned due to rain on July 1. Meanwhile, Morne Morkel dropped a big hint on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s India debut ahead of the second T20I.
On providing clarity to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Parthiv Patel said, “Patience and honest communication is the key.”
Well, Parthiv believes that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is likely to get a chance at some stage during the ongoing five-match T20 series, but the team management will have to handle him carefully. If the team is not planning to play him now then they should explain the reason.
Parthiv Patel said on JioStar: “I think Vaibhav Suryavanshi will definitely get a chance at some point in this series. But at the moment, communication is something that is very important. When you are part of a coaching staff, you have to make sure that you are giving the right signals to a batsman.
Even if you are not letting him play, you still need to tell him this fact. He is a 15 year old child. You will have to talk to him thoughtfully. You have to teach him some patience. Because when you are playing for India, when you are selected for India, there are many other players who have performed really well.
Parthiv Patel told why Vaibhav Suryavanshi does not have a place in India’s playing eleven.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman also stressed that making it to India’s playing XI is never easy as there is tough competition for every spot. He also pointed out that Sanju Samson was one of the best performers for India during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma have also been regular performers in T20 cricket, so Vaibhav will have to wait for his chance. Amidst this wait, Parthiv believes that the most important thing is honest communication as this will help Vaibhav remain confident, patient and fully prepared whenever the opportunity comes.
Patel said, “Talking about Sanju Samson. He was the player of the series in the World Cup. You have Ishan Kishan, who is batting at No. 3 and is the No. 1 ICC ranked player. No. 2 is Abhishek Sharma. At the moment, there is no place, and you have to tell that to Vaibhav Suryavanshi very well.”
