One of the most reliable batsmen of the Indian Premier League in the last few seasons, Sai Sudarshan shared a moment with the legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni.
In a latest video on YouTube, Sai revealed a brief conversation with the former India captain during an IPL 2024 match. Sudarshan scored a century for Gujarat Titans against Chennai Super Kings and he went to meet MS Dhoni after the match.
MS Dhoni’s answer regarding Sai Sudarshan was surprising
It is not rare for young players to meet established players in the league. But what Dhoni said to Sai Sudarshan was unique. When the Gujarat Titans opener went to meet Dhoni, the veteran keeper-batsman sarcastically asked why he wanted to talk to him, as Sudarshan was already in form at that time.
The Gujarat Titans batsman probably expected such a reaction from Dhoni, but he understood that the former international cricketer’s reaction was sarcastic.
“Once I met MS Dhoni, he asked me, ‘Why have you come to meet me? You are already playing well.’ Sai Sudarshan said in a YouTube video.

The budding batsman mentions that since his childhood days, when he was only a student, he was dreaming of playing for Chennai Super Kings. On his way to school and college, Sai Sudarshan would often see the CSK team bus passing by.
Since he is from Chennai, there is an automatic emotional connect with the franchise, but so far, he has only played for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League and has performed consistently. The 24-year-old has played for GT in all five of its IPL seasons from 2022 to 2026.
The batsman said via the same source, “I have thought about playing for CSK many times. While going to school and college, the CSK bus used to pass by me and just seeing it gave me immense pleasure. And we used to go right behind the CSK bus.”
In two consecutive seasons for Gujarat Titans, the emerging top opener has scored two 700-plus innings. In IPL 2025, he scored 759 runs in 15 matches and as many innings, and in the 2026 season, he scored 722 runs in 17 innings.
Sai Sudarshan impressed Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah with his batting.
Earlier during the IPL 2024 season, the left-handed batsman had scored 527 runs in 12 innings. Sudarshan said he has received praise for his batting from some of the greats of the game like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.
Recalling an incident, Sudarshan mentioned that last year, during the award winning ceremony, Jasprit Bumrah had patted the young batsmen on the back and encouraged them. This year, after the final match, Virat Kohli himself praised him.
“Last year, when I was at the awards ceremony at the end of the IPL, Jasprit Bumrah patted me on the back and said, ‘Great season’. That was a gratifying moment when the greatest player tells you that. 4. Similarly, this year, after the final, Virat Kohli said, ‘Another great season’. These moments help me understand that I am going in the right direction,” said Sai Sudarshan.
