Ishan Kishan’s rise continues as the Indian keeper-batsman has claimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings for batsmen for the first time in his career, overtaking his teammate Abhishek Sharma, who held the No. 1 spot for a long time.
Ishan Kishan’s rise in the rankings comes days after India’s T20I series against Ireland in Belfast, where the hosts won the two-match series 2-0. Currently, Ishan is on top of the table with 876 rating, while Abhishek Sharma has slipped to second place with 869 rating.
ICC updates rankings for Ishan Kishan as No. 1 T20I batsman
On July 1, the first day of the new month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) releases the latest rankings. By claiming the top spot in the rankings, Jharkhand state cricket team captain has joined an elite group of players like Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.
“Abhishek had held the top ranking for almost 12 months, with Kishan joining an exclusive group including Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav as one of four male India players to hold the premier position for batsmen in T20I cricket,” the ICC noted in its official release.
