Considering the demands of modern cricket, Sanjay Manjrekar says just having a pair of explosive batsmen at the top of the batting order won’t do the trick, especially after the 34-run defeat in the first match of the two-match T20I series. He believes that if Vaibhav was in the team, India could have strengthened its middle-order batting by keeping Sanju Samson in the middle-order.
Sanjay Manjrekar said on Sony Sports Network, “It is not a good cricket decision. In fact, I am not falling for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. After what happened in the first T20 match, India wanted a good middle-order batsman. Firing the openers is not enough. You also want the batsmen firing. This was one area where India needed a pure batsman.”
He said, “The way to bring Vaibhav in was to make him open and keep Sanju in the middle order. I am not happy with it. I wanted Vaibhav to open.”
Two players debuted for India in the second match against Ireland
India suffered a rare setback against Ireland in the previous game, where they lost the match by a margin of 34 runs. This was Ireland’s first win against the powerful Indian cricket team in all formats. Apart from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 50 runs during the run chase, other batsmen in the line-up failed to perform anything significant. Thus the touring team had to face defeat.
For today’s match, the Men in Blue have kept their top order the same with Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. In place of all-rounder Washington Sundar and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, he has kept all-rounder Suryansh Shedge and fast bowler Prince Yadav in the playing combination.
Both Washington and Famous were very expensive with the ball in the match. With the inclusion of Suryansh, the Indian cricket team can expect some fireworks from the lower-middle order. For Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav, this is their first match for the national team in T20Is.

Before the second match, Abhishek Sharma said that it is his responsibility to make Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is only 15, comfortable with his teammates. Abhishek mentioned that the young opener is in his learning phase.
“As a team, I think it’s our responsibility to make him comfortable. And obviously, he’s a young guy, and what I felt was that he’s very eager to play all the time. He’s just learning.”
“He asks questions, so I think he has that thing in him where he wants to learn a lot of things and obviously, it’s a dream for him too. So we are trying our best to make him feel like he belongs in the group,” Abhishek told reporters.
