Since Delhi Capitals (DC) traded their star spinner Kuldeep Yadav to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to bring Rishabh Pant on board ahead of the IPL 2027 season, another possible trade rumor has been doing the rounds on social media platforms.
Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has rubbished the fact that DC will let go of their Indian finisher Ashutosh Sharma for Rahul Chahar, who was mostly unused in the last edition of the Indian Premier League.

Ravichandran Ashwin casts doubt on possible CSK-DC trade deal
Through his YouTube channel, R Ashwin believes that every business deal comes with some logic. But, inclusion of Rahul Chahar in place of Ashutosh Sharma will not make any sense from DC’s point of view. While CSK may get some benefits with Ashutosh Sharma in their team, Rahul Chahar will not be as helpful for DC as Ashwin thinks.
Ravichandran Ashwin said in one of his YouTube videos, “There should be some logic and fairness in the trade proposal. I understand that CSK wants Ashutosh Sharma. And of course, DC did not use him properly. Who are you giving back in the trade for Ashutosh Sharma? There is someone in Rahul Chahar who you yourself have not played in the 11.”
Why should DC not allow Ashutosh Sharma to go?
Delhi Capitals will need a spinner to replace Kuldeep Yadav, but will they accept Rahul Chahar in place of Ashutosh Sharma? Ashwin has doubts Ashwin explains that an Indian finisher like Ashutosh Sharma is quite rare, so he believes DC would not be so foolish as to accept Chahar in place of their designated finisher. Moreover, Delhi still has Indian spinners like Vipraraj Nigam and Axar Patel.

“A finisher is a prized asset, and it is very hard to get a good finisher, especially an Indian finisher. Would DC be so foolish as to accept trading him for Rahul Chahar? Yes, DC needs a spinner as they have replaced Kuldeep. But they still have Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel. How about trading for Rahul Chahar, just to bench him, and give you Ashutosh as the first 11 player. For?” He expressed his doubts over the rumored trade deal ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
This will be one of the biggest heists: Ravichandran Ashwin
The proposed trade deal may seem less logical, but everything could be in place behind the scenes before the new season. Therefore, Ravichandran Ashwin did not completely rule out the potential deal. But he further stressed that if a trade deal happens between CSK and DC involving Deepak Chahar and Ashutosh Sharma, it will be the biggest robbery in the history of mankind and the Indian Premier League.
“If this trade happens, it will be one of the biggest robberies in the history of mankind and IPL. Even if DC is looking for a wrist spinner to replace Kuldeep, why would they try to get a spinner who almost entirely warmed the bench last season? Even if they want Chahar, they will still try to get him in the auction,” said the former CSK cricketer.
