Indian cricketer Sanju Samson recently made an interesting comparison between some of the biggest names in cricket and tennis ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. Samson compared former India captain MS Dhoni with Swiss tennis great Roger Federer and also compared Virat Kohli with Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz.

Samson was last seen in action for Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2026 season. He is ready to return to international cricket India’s upcoming two-match T20 series against IrelandWhich will start from 26th June. The Men in Blue will be led by Shreyas Iyer for this format, while Tilak Verma will serve as the vice-captain.
MS Dhoni is the Roger Federer of cricket – Sanju Samson
Speaking with former Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna on JioStar, Sanju Samson shared his views on cricket and tennis comparisons. Samson said that MS Dhoni reminds him of Roger Federer because of his calm personality and smooth playing style.

Sanju Samson said, “The Roger Federer of cricket? It has to be MS Dhoni. He is very calm and patient in the way he does his job. When he performs, it looks effortless and powerful.”
Samson also compared Virat Kohli to Carlos Alcaraz due to his aggressive attitude and explosive batting. He highlighted Kohli’s intensity, power and aggressive mindset, which he believes is similar to that of the young Spanish tennis star.
“On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz is very explosive, just like Virat bhai started. Maybe Virat Kohli can be compared to Alcaraz. He is very aggressive and full of power and explosiveness.”

MS Dhoni’s injury-plagued IPL 2026 season has raised questions over his future.
MS Dhoni’s absence was a major disappointment for Chennai Super Kings fans during IPL 2026. A calf injury sustained him was ruled out early in the season, and further setbacks, including a thumb problem, prevented him from returning to action. The wicketkeeper batsman missed the entire tournament.
This was the first time since the IPL began in 2008 that Dhoni was not available for the entire season. Although he remained associated with the team and participated in the matches from the dugout, his absence created a big gap in the middle order of Chennai Super Kings.
CSK faced another disappointing campaign and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Their heavy defeat to Gujarat Titans ended their hopes of progressing in the tournament.
Speculations regarding Dhoni’s future also increased this season. The 44-year-old has not announced his retirement, but missing the entire IPL season due to injury has raised questions about whether he will play for Chennai Super Kings again.
We were all watching the final – Sanju Samson
During the same video, Sanju Samson talked about India’s victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The wicketkeeper-batsman recalled watching the final with his family and described the win as a proud and emotional moment for cricket fans across the country.
Sanju Samson said, “We were all watching the final. My family members and everyone else were glued to the TV. It was a special moment for all of us in the country. We had been waiting for this for a long time. We knew we were capable of winning the World Cup, yet even when we were so close, we were so far away.”
“I was very happy for all the players on the team. There was a lot of hard work behind it and a lot of great stories within the team. It was a proud moment for all of us.”
“I think the bar was set very high for us. They won the World Cup and put us on a platform where we felt we could do the same in India. It was a great moment that both the World Cups happened in India and we won them. So, yes, that win definitely played a role.”
