Will Virat Kohli reconsider his Test retirement?

The host of the show Danish Sait asked Virat Kohli, “The price of the red shoe has been kept at Rs 9230 (Virat’s Test runs), would you like to return to Test cricket to make the shoe more money (and add more runs?”)

In response, the former India captain said that he has no desire to make a comeback in the format. He replied, “No no, I would love to sell at a lower price… my work (Test cricket) is over.”

Virat Kohli retired from T20Is soon after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and a year later, he retired from Tests, leaving him active only in the ODI format.

Kohli is suffering from hamstring injury

Currently, he is not a part of the Indian cricket team due to the hamstring injury he suffered while batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the run chase against Gujarat Titans in the final of the IPL 2026 season.

The 37-year-old showed the same intensity and eagerness to win the match as he smashed an unbeaten 75 to defend the title he earned in the 2025 season of the league. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Virat Kohli for the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan. But he ruled himself out of the bilateral match due to a hamstring injury.

On Sunday (June 21), the board announced the squad for the ODI series against England, where they have included the Delhi-born player, although his participation in the league is dependent on his fitness ahead of the overseas series.

Kohli’s batting statistics in brief across all formats for India

Before moving away from the longest format of the game, the batsman scored 9,230 runs in 123 matches and 210 innings with a batting average of 46.85. He decorated his Test statistics with thirty centuries and 31 half-centuries.

Under his leadership and the coaching of Ravi Shastri, the Indian cricket team reached new heights in this format, especially on overseas tours.

In T20Is, the right-handed batsman scored 4,188 runs in 125 matches and 117 innings at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04. During his T20I stint, he scored one century and thirty-eight 50s.

He has still kept himself active in the ODI matches, and fans are hoping to see the great batsman back in action with the Indian cricket team during the series against England. So far, in 299 innings, Virat Kohli has scored 14,797 runs at an average of 58.71 with the help of 54 centuries and 77 half-centuries.
