Yashasvi Jaiswal has once again taken a big step for the Indian national cricket team against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday evening. The southpaw scored a brilliant century while chasing the target of 219 runs last night. This was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second century and both times it came while chasing the target.
Yashasvi Jaiswal took the least number of innings to reach his second ODI century, surpassing the record of Shikhar Dhawan, who had done so in 7 innings, and Shikhar who had done so in 6 innings. The southpaw keeps knocking on the doors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors and gets selected in the 50-over format as well. He came as a replacement for Virat Kohli.

Yashasvi Jaiswal knocked on the door of BCCI selectors!
Yashasvi Jaiswal was brought back into the ODI squad after Virat Kohli was ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury. The former player played just two matches and scored a century in the third and final game. He scored 110 runs in 86 balls with the help of 14 fours and three sixes. After the inning, Yashasvi gave the credit for this to Rohit Sharma.
Many former cricketers have praised Yashasvi’s innings, now cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra has praised the southpaw for scoring a match-winning century. He pointed out the fact that the left-handed opening batsman has always been left out of the team despite performing well in the ODI format as well.
He plays very well and deserves a place here – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra said that the 24-year-old batsman is just a backup option for India as when Virat Kohli returns, he could be out of the team, with Shubman Gill in the opening slot along with Rohit Sharma. Chopra said that Jaiswal was included in the playing eleven only after Nitish Kumar Reddy was injured.

“Yashaswi Jaiswal is getting so few chances that you feel he is not part of the scheme of things. He comes in as a replacement plan. He comes in as a backup option, but whenever he comes in, he plays very well and deserves a place here,” he said.
“There is pressure. You become part of the Indian team at this level after six months and no one knows whether he will play in the next six months or not. He will be seen playing in Tests, it is true, but he is not a part of ODI and T20 cricket.”
He elaborated, “He became a part of this team only because Virat Kohli got injured. He got a chance to play in the second match because Nitish Kumar Reddy got injured.”
Need to invest a little more – Aakash Chopra on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Aakash Chopra highlighted that Yashasvi Jaiswal proved to be a key player in the ODI setup as well, but added that apart from him, there are many players who are waiting for their opportunities in the 50-over format of the game.
He said, “He is a proper player, and he is always reminding us that he needs to invest a little more. However, that is the other side of the story of Indian cricket. He still gets chances here and there, but then you start thinking that Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad are also there, and you will start giving chances to Vaibhav Suryavanshi at some stage, and Sanju Samson also does not play ODI cricket.”
