Another great chance from Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan for Team India. Kishan has been in form for the team since his return, and Gill has been in form since the IPL 2026 season with Gujarat Titans.
With two destructive, in-form batsmen in the middle, the Men in Blue disrupted the figures in ODIs again. At the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, the home team set a record against the visiting Afghanistan.

Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan were firing on all cylinders
Afghanistan started well with the ball and took the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the innings. After this, Team India completely gained momentum. While Rohit Sharma was out after scoring 48 runs, as the second batsman to return to the pavilion, Shubman Gill found Ishan Kishan as his ideal batting partner for today’s game.
From both ends of the wicket, both these batsmen were firing on all their cylinders. At one point in the first innings, Gill looked unstoppable, but he ended his innings after reaching the 150-run mark. The Indian captain was out after scoring 154 runs out of 110 and Ishan Kishan returned after scoring 125 runs out of 79.
List of highest scores made by India in ODIs:
With two blistering centuries, both with strike rates over a hundred, it was clear that India would register a total of over 400 runs on the board in this format. The question was how many runs would be scored in total? India scored 402 runs losing all ten wickets in 49.5 overs.

418/5 (50 overs) vs West Indies, Indore – 8 December 2011
414/7 (50 overs) vs Sri Lanka, Rajkot – 15 December 2009
413/5 (50 overs) vs Bermuda, Port of Spain – 19 March 2007
410/4 (50 overs) vs Netherlands, Bengaluru – 12 November 2023
409/8 (50 overs) vs Bangladesh, Chattogram – 10 December 2022
404/5 (50 overs) vs Sri Lanka, Eden Gardens – 13 November 2014
402 all out (49.5 overs) vs Afghanistan, Lucknow – 17 June 2026
Jaiswal’s departure did not provide much help to Afghanistan’s bowlers which could reduce India’s run rate. In the first ten overs, when Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma were on track, they scored runs at a strike rate of 8.00.
India dominated till the 40th over of the innings
The Men in Blue did most of the carnage between the 11th and 40th overs. This was the time when Gill and Ishan Kishan mostly shared the pitch. In 30 overs, the Indian cricket team scored 260 runs for the loss of only a few wickets.
After the departure of Gill and Kishan, Afghanistan returned to the contest. The run rate fell as soon as he returned. In the last ten overs of the innings, the host team scored only 62 runs for 7 wickets.
India’s innings progressed
Overs 1-10: 80/1
Overs 11-40: 260/2
Overs 41-50: 62/7
Tremendous partnership between Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan
The way India were scoring runs, they should have scored more runs due to the partnership between Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan in the middle. Gill and Kishan made a partnership of 224 runs for the third wicket in Lucknow today.
