There was high drama in the India A-Sri Lanka A game at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, which ended with 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi getting into a heated altercation with the Sri Lankan players after being dismissed in the Super Over.

As soon as Sri Lanka A sealed the win, their players went into celebration. However, Vaibhav looked quite disappointed and exchanged words with Sri Lankan all-rounder Vishen Halambage. Television footage and images circulated on social media showed the two players standing face to face before teammates intervened.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was upset about something immediately after the match and got involved in an “argy-bargy” with one of the Sri Lankan fielders. Suryansh Shedge was seen pulling the young batsman away from the confrontation, however Vaibhav continued to exchange words before the situation calmed down.

Fortunately, the incident did not escalate further and players from both teams completed the customary handshake afterward.

India A failed to defend the target

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka A, batting first, scored 265/9 in 50 overs. Sadira Samarawickrama played the anchor role by scoring a brilliant 93 runs in 113 balls, while Niroshan Dickwella contributed 37 runs and Avishka Fernando contributed 22 runs.

For India A, Arshad Khan was the standout bowler with figures of 1/36 in eight overs. Vipraj Nigam, Ayush Badoni and Suryansh Shedge also took wickets as the visitors kept Sri Lanka A within reach.

Chasing the target, India A had a poor start and lost wickets at regular intervals. Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 21 runs in just 14 balls, while captain Tilak Verma managed to score 23 runs. At 143/7, the visiting team looked headed for defeat.

However, Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam performed a remarkable rescue operation. Both of them made a partnership of 104 runs for the eighth wicket, in which Shej scored 72 runs in 66 balls and Nigam scored 51 runs in 49 balls.

His efforts helped India A level the score at 265, but ultimately left the visitors heartbroken after a controversial defeat in the Super Over, with the post-match controversy surrounding Vaibhav becoming the biggest talking point of the competition.
