Days before Australia’s white-ball series against Bangladesh, Cricket Australia (CA) has had to deal with a number of injuries and fitness concerns as it looks to protect its top talent. The next few months are going to be very important for Australia as they have to participate in many top series.
Australia will face Bangladesh for 3 T20Is in Bangladesh, followed by 3 ODIs without some of their key players. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh are among the two star batsmen who have been rested from the white-ball bilateral series for different reasons.

Mitchell Marsh in recovery session with Travis Head ruled out
Mitchell Marsh has still not fully recovered from the ankle injury which prevented him from playing in Pakistan. Travis Head, who also missed the Pakistan series, was named for the Bangladesh competition. Yet, now, as Australia’s cricket governing body has put his workload management under question, the opening batsman has been ruled out of the series. Head missed the series against Pakistan due to his IPL 2026 commitments with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Legspinner Tanvir Sangha has also been ruled out with a hamstring injury in Pakistan. CA has named Todd Murphy as his replacement in the upcoming white-ball series starting in Mirpur from June 9. Murphy, who has played 7 Tests so far, has earned his first white-ball call-up.
As replacements for Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, Cricket Australia has chosen Matt Short and Ollie Peake. Both of them have retained their positions from the Pakistan stage.

“Travis was initially selected for the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour, but was later granted personal leave for both. We look forward to seeing him again for the top Test series against Bangladesh,” national selector Tony Dodemade said in an official statement.
Josh Inglis to lead Australia in ODI vs Bangladesh
Since both Marsh and Head are missing from the tour, it is expected that Josh Inglis will remain the acting captain initially for the ODI series. If Mitchell Marsh remains unfit to take the field, he will also have the responsibility of leading the team in T20Is.
As per the original plan, Marsh was to lead the team in both formats. He is not able to play ODI due to the injury sustained during the injury. CA officials are hopeful of his recovery before the T20 series, which is scheduled to begin on June 17 in Chattogram.
Tony Dodemide said, “We had hoped that Mitch Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series; however, he is still working his way back to full fitness from an ankle injury. Mitch will join the group in Dhaka and begin preparations for the T20 series.”
