Suryakumar Yadav has been removed from the T20 captaincy as well as the team. As a captain, the Team India batsman led the team to T20 World Cup 2026 glory, helping them win back-to-back edition titles and become the first team to win three T20 titles as well as the first team to win on home soil.

Another Mumbai-born batsman Shreyas Iyer has been replaced by Suryakumar Yadav. The Punjab Kings captain has been named as the new T20I captain, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the squad for the Asian Games 2026 as well as the tour of Ireland and England. Rohit and Sky congratulated Shreyas Iyer

Currently, both Shreyas and Suryakumar Yadav are playing in the T20 Mumbai League 2026 for SOBO Mumbai Falcons and Triumphs Knights respectively. In fact, they are playing against each other tonight. During the toss, Sky congratulated Shreyas on becoming the captain of India and also felt proud as both of them come from the same state.

Apart from congratulating Shreyas Iyer, he also mentioned an interesting fact that all the last 3 T20I captains of India have been from Mumbai, namely Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and now Shreyas Iyer, so it is a historic moment for Mumbai cricket, as two of these three are T20 World Cup winning captains. Now Shreyas has to fulfill a big responsibility.
