The veteran coach shared insights about Kohli’s personality and said that those who know him closely understand how humble, respectful and down-to-earth he remains despite his success in professional cricket.

The comments come after another impressive IPL season for Kohli. The RCB opener played a key role with the bat and helped his team reach the final of IPL 2026.

Speaking to RevSportz, Rajkumar Sharma said that many people misunderstand Virat Kohli’s aggressive behavior on the field and mistake it for arrogance. The veteran coach stressed that Kohli is of humble nature and respects the people around him.

Rajkumar said, “Virat is a very humble person. People used to mistake him for being arrogant, but anyone who knows him closely knows how humble and respectful he is. To me, he is still like a child.”

He said, “He was not even nine years old when he came to me and he has been with me since then. To reach such heights in world cricket and still show the same respect and honor is really admirable.”

Kohli’s image is often shaped by his intense celebrations, animated reactions and willingness to engage in battle on the field. Unlike many Indian cricketers who prefer a calm approach, Kohli has always adopted a more aggressive style and uses that energy to motivate himself.

Rajkumar Sharma recalls his conversation with former India cricketer Anshuman Gaikwad about his close relationship with Virat Kohli. Sharma said that Gaikwad was surprised by the strong relationship between them and the way they remained connected throughout Kohli’s career.

“I remember Anshuman Gaekwad ji, who was like an elder brother to me. He used to say, ‘I have followed Indian cricket closely. I played for India, coached the Indian team and saw everything. But I have never seen a relationship like you and Virat.’

‘You don’t miss a single ball played by him anywhere in the world and he talks to you as soon as the match is over.’ He often used to say that he had never seen such a relationship, especially with a player who has reached the highest level of world cricket.

Rajkumar Sharma said that despite achieving immense success in world cricket, he feels proud of Virat Kohli’s personality. The veteran coach said that their relationship has remained unchanged since the batsman first joined his academy as a young boy.

“Virat has a wonderful nature and is incredibly respectful. Even today he is very affectionate towards me. I am proud to have him as my apprentice.”

Virat Kohli enjoyed another excellent IPL season in 2026. The RCB star scored 600 runs in 15 innings at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of 164.38, which included four half-centuries and an unbeaten century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
